how to get past my house alarm system?

my parents put an alarm system in my house so that i cannot leave the house with out an alarm going off notifyin them. how can i open the doors wiht magnetic sensors on them without settinf off the alarm?
someone told me that if you place a magnet between the sensors it prevents it from going off. is this true?

the Alarms are not to keep you in but to keep others out.

however, a friend of mine back when I was in HS had the same kind of magnetic system, and a friend told her that a metel over the sensor would keep it from going off when you open the window. Like a foil gum wraper.
Worked for her, but this was the technology 6 years ago, I dont know about now.
