Making Sure Your Safety Gate is Fitted Correctly

A safety gate can be the single most important home safety device that you purchase when your little angel becomes more mobile. With the ability to keep babies and toddlers out of harm’s way, a safety gate can literally be a life saver – that is, if it is chosen and fitted correctly.

There are two main types of safety gate on the market, the first and most common being the pressure fitted safety gate. A pressure fitted safety gate has a gate in the centre and frame that runs along the bottom and up both sides. They also have four adjuster arms with hand wheels that tighten to increase the pressure and lesson the gap between the gate and wall to fix the gate in place. Fitting a pressure fitted safety gate is simple, easy and usually doesn’t require any tools.

The most common mistake that is made when it comes to fitting stair gates, originates from the choice of safety gate. Pressure fitted safety gates are designed to fit different width spans and thus if you have chosen a safety gate that is too small you will not be able to securely and safely fasten it in place.
