motion sensor garbage can?

I have had this for about a year and loved it. When it opened it would stay that way for about 3 seconds and then close.
Now it opens and closes within a second. I bought brand new brand name batteries and that was useless.
Any ideas are appreciated.

Perhaps the hinges have loosed up with continued use. Is there a way to tighten some screws there? Or perhaps the sensor needs cleaned.
