How long does it take to pass through customs and security and all that in Atlanta?
I’ll be arriving in Atlanta from Dublin (Ireland), on my way to Mexico. I have a 5 hour wait until my flight to Mexico. How long does it take to get through customs and all that stuff upon arriving in Atlanta?
Also, when do I receive my luggage?
And finally, is travel between terminals in Atlanta easy?
Depends on how many other flights are coming in at that time. When you arrive, you will be routed to special baggage claim area to claim your checked bags, then you go through customs and immigration. Then there is a baggage drop off area before going back through Airport Security.
Atlanta is pretty easy to get around. All the terminals are aligned like this | | | | | . There is a tram system that goes back and forth between terminals.
A 5 hour layover is more than enough time. It shouldn’t take more than an hour, unless there were huge number of international flights coming in at the same time.

East German Foreign Intelligence: Myth, Reality and Controversy $138 This edited book examines the East German foreign intelligence service (Hauptverwaltung Aufklärung, or HVA) as a historical problem, covering politics, scientific-technical and military intelligence and counterintelligence. The contributors broaden the conventional view of East German foreign intelligence as driven by the inter-German conflict to include its targeting of the United States, northern European and Scandinavian countries, highlighting areas that have previously received scant attention, like scientific-technical and military intelligence. The CIA’s underestimation of the HVA was a major intelligence failure. As a result, East German intelligence served as a stealth weapon against the US, West German and NATO targets, acquiring the lion’s share of critical Warsaw Pact intelligence gathered during the Cold War. This book explores how though all of the CIA’s East German sources were double agents controlled by the Ministry of State Security, the CIA was still able to declare victory in the Cold War. Themes and topics that run through the volume include the espionage wars; the HVA’s relationship with the Russian KGB; successes and failures of the BND (West German Federal Intelligence Service) in East Germany; the CIA and the HVA; the HVA in countries outside of West Germany; disinformation and the role and importance of intelligence gathering in East Germany. This book will be of much interest to students of East Germany, Intelligence Studies, Cold War History and German politics in general.Kristie Macrakis is Professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta. Thomas Wegener Friis is an Assistant Professor at the University of Southern Denmark’s Centre for Cold War Studies. Helmut Müller-Enbergs is currently a Visiting Professor at the University of Southern Denmark and holds a tenured senior staff position at the German Federal Commission for the STASI Archives in Berlin. |

Giles, John Paul Scott, Henri Young, Bernard Coy, Miran Edgar Thompson, Leslie Isben Rogge, Thomas R. Limerick, Rufus Mccain. Excerpt: Bernard Paul Coy Bernard Paul Coy (February 13, 1901 May 4, 1946) was a bank robber and federal prisoner best known as the planner of a failed escape attempt from Alcatraz prison , on May 2, 1946 which turned into a bloody two day armed confrontation leaving Coy, two fellow would be escapers and two prison guards dead. Coy was a native of Kentucky who turned to crime during the Depression and in 1937 was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment. He was transferred to Alcatraz from Atlanta in 1938 and was later given the position of cell-house orderly which allowed him access through most of the main cell-block on Alcatraz. This relative freedom allowed him to spot a tiny flaw in one of the prison’s security features, the bars of the gun-gallery overlooking the cell house. Coy along with Joe Cretzer , Marvin Hubbard, Sam Shockley , Miran Thompson , and Clarence Carnes planned to break into the gun galleries to steal weapons, take hostages and then flee to the dock. He was successful in creating a makeshift bar-spreader that enabled him to get through the relatively weak bars that protected the gun galleries and overpower the unsuspecting guard on his return from investigating a fabricated incident caused by Shockley in the prison’s secure unit, D-Block. The prisoners now had one Springfield rifle , one .45 automatic handgun but the |

Illinois Artillery Officer’s Civil War: The Diary and Letters of John Cheney $6.57 John Cheney was a well educated businessman living in Dixon, Illinois. In 1862 he raised an artillery company-Battery F, 1st Illinois Light Artillery-and served as its captain. Battery F fought in the Western Theatre in the Army of the Tennessee (Gens. Grant and Sherman). This volume draws on 318 entries from Cheney’s Civil War diary and 100 letters he wrote home to his wife, plus additional documents, photos, and material relating to his life before, during and after the war. Cheney’s letters and diary entries have a warmth and intimacy that is unusual in writing of that time. John Cheney served out a strong sense of duty to the country that had provided him with security and opportunity. Over time he developed health problems that tested that sense of duty. Cheney was entirely absorbed in his activities when in combat or advancing on Confederate troops. During times of inactivity he suffered boredom and experienced loneliness being separated from his wife and two children. During the Atlanta campaign, his 11-year-old son Royce accompanied him. Cheney was an ordinary man doing his best in the extraordinary occurrences of war. |
